Welcome to Whitegate Women's Institute (WI)
Welcome !
We are a vibrant group of women who enjoy the campaigning element of the WI alongside the more traditional craft activities and talks. We have a varied programme of events arranged for the year, so please come and join us on the first Wednesday of each month at 7.15pm for a 7.30pm start in the Recreation Room, Whitegate, CW8 2BL.
These monthly meetings give members the chance to meet up in person, try new activities, listen to speakers and campaign on issues that matter to them. We also have many other activities between monthly meetings.
(please see Programme and Activities page)
Please note that all recent photos are now on Facebook, if browsing our Photo Gallery page.
We welcome visitors for taster sessions for a small fee - just come along or get in touch through our contact page!
Inspiring women - then and now.........
Formed in 1915, the Women's Institute was originally brought to life to revitalise rural communities and encourage women to become more involved in producing food during the First World War. Since then the organisation's aims have broadened and the WI is now the largest voluntary women's organisation in the UK.
The NFWI (National Federation of Women's Institutes) has over 210,000 members in 7,000 WIs. The WI plays a unique role in providing women with educational opportunities and the chance to build new skills, to take part in a wide variety of activities and to campaign on issues that matter to them and their communities.
